The World Health Organisation has established April 7th of each year as World Health Day.
It is a day of reflection and awareness worldwide, to find ways to fill the gaps in our fellow humans’ healthcare. The World Health Organisation slogan is more relevant than ever and has its own symbolism for the necessity of vaccination: “Building a fairer and healthier world for everyone and for every country“.
WHO states that the world is unequal and, as COVID-19 has shown, some people can live healthier lives and have better access to health services than others, solely due to the conditions under which they are born, grow up, live, work and age.
COVID-19 has hit all countries hard, but its impact has been greater on already vulnerable communities, who are more exposed to the disease, have fewer opportunities to access quality healthcare services and are more likely to suffer adverse effects as a result of measures implemented to contain the pandemic. In times of crisis, let us not forget that health is indeed the most precious asset.
